With today’s amazing technology (and the fact that my 9-year-old is better at programming things than I am!), it makes sense to me to take advantage of my kids’ interest in technology by providing them with a new, fun way to save. My husband and I already have online accounts through ING Direct, and we’ve had great success with them. In fact, we opened them with a Black Friday deal, too, so we got the $107 FREE bonus! All you need to do to get this bonus (and yes, it’s really FREE money because I’ve tried it!) is to make 5 purchases with your new account within 45 days. That’s it! On day 50, your FREE money will be deposited!
Now it’s time to open up additional savings accounts for the kids with ING Direct’s new Kids Savings Account program. Even better, from November 25-27, your children will receive a $27 FREE BONUS in their new savings account!
Why online? It’s for the same reason I like to put things away in the pantry. Out of sight, out of mind. If it’s in the pantry, they won’t see it so they can’t eat it. The same goes for savings accounts. Sure, the kids have savings accounts at the credit union, and almost every time we go there, Zachary keeps asking if he can take money out. I have to remind him that’s not the purpose of a savings account.
If it’s not easily accessible, like an online account, I see that as an advantage.
They can check balances on the computer. How fun is that?! Instead of waiting for a quarterly statement through the mail (three months is a long time to wait when you’re a kid!), they can go to the computer to see how much money is there, and they can watch it grow.
If it’s online, how do I get money in there? For instance, if I want my child’s allowance or “commission” to go there, how can I do that? That’s even more fun, because you can set up an automatic draft from the parent’s checking account to be disbursed to the child’s Kids Savings Account, or make an individual transfer each week at the click of a tab.
It’s fun. I want to get my children excited about saving, and this is an easy way to do it which also utilizes the technology they already use. No fees or minimums, either.
I encourage you to look into the benefits of opening a Kids Savings Account at ING Direct. It’s a little more high-tech than a piggy bank, plus it earns interest, too!
P.S. If Mom and Dad want to enjoy some high tech piggy banking, too, consider looking into Electric Orange CheckingSM, the Orange Savings AccountSM, or the Business Savings Account, which all operate the same way! In fact, you can earn a $107 bonus when you open an Electric Orange℠ checking account from ING DIRECT, including Free ATMs and no overdraft fees. Click here for details.
