I am a serious booklover, and a love of books is something that I’ve been passionate about passing on to my children. I still remember my first grade teacher telling me, “It doesn’t matter how poor you are. You can go anywhere in a book!” So when the concept of an electronic book came to be, I wasn’t impressed since I have long been a fan of the traditional book.
Then I stopped to think about the implications. Yes, I would prefer a real hold-it-in-your-hand book, but really, the whole point is that the person is still reading, isn’t it? For instance, there have been times when my library has been out of the book I was looking for, but I discovered there was a copy of the book in the large print edition, which I promptly snatched up. Hey, a book is a book, regardless of the format. I think that ought to apply to electronic books, as well.
Granted, I’m not planning on spending $139 on a Kindle reader, but when I discovered that I could Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice! It warms this mama’s literature-loving heart, too!)
Once you’ve downloaded the Kindle for PC program, you’ll want to find some FREE Kindle books to enjoy. You can also get a Kindle app on your smartphone if you have an iPhone, Droid, or Blackberry. Amazon now also allows Prime members to borrow books on the Kindle without even having to purchase them. Very cool!
Here are a few FREE Kindle books, including several for Christmas. Click on the picture of each one to download it.
The Secret by Beverly Lewis (borrow for FREE)
The Missing by Beverly Lewis (borrow for FREE)
Lie Down in Green Pastures: The Psalm 23 Mysteries
The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry
And the list goes on! There are tons of free ebooks available on Amazon if you do a search for “free kindle books.” If you’re willing to forego the fact that you’re reading an electronic book rather than a physical book, this is a really frugal way to read!
I do have to admit, though, that curling up with a good laptop doesn’t sound quite as cozy as curling up with a good book.
Walgreens is offering a FREE 8 x 10 collage when you order online and use the coupon code FREECOLLAGE. Choose to pick up in store, and this will be completely free. Limit 1 per account. Collage must be ordered by May 7 at 11:59 pm CDT to qualify. Go here to get started.
Did you know you can order the collage or prints and have them ready to be picked up at a far away location? That’s what I do with my grandma who lives in Illinois.
