My mom and I went shopping this weekend. Once a month, we have this special “Girls’ Day Out.” It started when I gave her a Chick-fil-A calendar for Christmas two year ago, promising that we would redeem the coupon each month together. Since then, it’s something which we both eagerly anticipate. Kind of like our Calgon moment.
Anyway, this past Saturday was our day out. While out and about in Murfreesboro, we saved at least 50% at Publix, snagged $10 worth of merchandise at Staples for $.32, received $20 worth of free merchandise at Victoria’s Secret (Secret Rewards card and Facebook promo), got 7 free packages of Carefree pantiliners at Target, bought 2 bottles of nail polish remover at Target for just $.47 each, sampled lots of great snacks at Sam’s Club, and were given FREE cookbooks at Sam’s, too! We also didn’t find the FoodSaver handheld vacuum sealer I told you about here, but we’ll try a SuperTarget next time.
While we were at Target, we explored the new grocery department at the Murfreesboro store. Most things were priced higher than we wanted to pay, but there were some really nice bananas there, all in beautiful bunches like the picture above. When we saw $.22 on the pricetag, we decided to split a bunch. Mom took the top four bananas. I took the bottom five.
When we were checking out, Mom was ready to pay her total, which came to $1.43. She asked, “The bananas rang up $.22 per pound, right?” The cashier said, “Well, they’re $.22 each!”
Is that crazy or what?! If you saw bunches of bananas for sale, would you think you were supposed to buy them individually or by the bunch?
I guess the moral of the story is, 1) read your signs closely, and 2) pay close attention to items as they ring up.
I’m looking on the bright side, though. Monday morning’s breakfast will cost me only $.22.
